The Talon: Legend Begins ...

We know some of you out there are curious types, so this page is for you. On this page, we do what we do best: talk about ourselves. For those of you who are just looking for our e-mail addresses so you can gripe, too bad, you'll have to wade through all this narcissism first. Just kidding, we'll put that at the top, because we're nice people. Just don't piss us off. Hahahahaha, oh you should have seen the look on your face. Anyway, here's some background about the crazy gals who love Lex/Lana so much that they had to create a site for it, and how you can reach us for questions/comments/suggestions about the site. We're happy to hear from all walks of life on nearly any topic (we list what we don't want to hear about, below), but we're only human: Those who are polite are more likely to get us to do something. On with the show!

To reach us about the site, e-mail talonists @ gmail.com.

The list of things we don't want to hear about:

  • How Lex is going to turn evil and therefore shouldn't be with Lana. Frankly, we already know all your arguments. We just don't care. <g>
  • Why Lana =really= belongs with Clark. Have you SEEN the movies? Do you know ANYthing about Clark Kent? Don't you understand that it's DOOMED? <sigh> Just ... just go.
  • Why Lex =really= belongs with Clark. We don't care how they look at each other.
  • Why we should cut Whitney and Jonathan some slack. Because OHMYGOD at you.
  • How "hot" any of the actors are. We know they're hot. Let's just leave it at that.
  • How we're evil and demented for being such huge proponents of this ship. Actually, strike this. You can write to us about this. <g>

About Jade:

Years from now when all our predictions have come true, do you know what I'm going to remember most? How I had to nag, plead, and otherwise cajole Jade into watching the first 12 or so episodes of Smallville. I sent her those episodes on two tapes and they sat around her house for five weeks. FIVE WEEKS. Untouched. You don't know how hard it was for me, to get more and more into the show and want to talk to SOMEONE about it all (including this crazy thing I saw between Lex and Lana), but having no one. Well, I had Brandon, but he was just all about Chloe, which made him useless. Anyhow, I kept v. mum about the show -- particularly about Lex/Lana -- so that Jade would be unbiased when she began watching. Maybe she would be solely into Clark/Lana. Maybe she would be a Lex/Clark or Lex/Chloe fan. Who knew?

But Jade proved that it's not by accident or chance that we're such good friends (though sometimes I do wonder). I still remember what she said after she saw the scene in "Metamorphosis" when Lex first sets eyes on Lana (GrownUp!Lana, at least): "OHMYGOD, Lex wants Lana." With no provocation or hinting from me whatsoever. Oh, how vindicated I was!

This is supposed to be a blurb about Jade, and so far it's all been about me. <g> But to tell you the truth, I can't really talk about Jade without talking about me. Not only because I'm an egotistical maniac, but because she's one of my closest friends and her experiences inform mine and vice versa, just like all the people who touch our lives. <pause for reflection and to regain composure, as I'm sure we were all brought down by those poignant words> OKAY, I'll get on with it. Jeez.

Jade has the distinction of having cut her teeth on the online community when she was 14. Now we're both old women. How did this happen? Why are we watching a TV show about 15-year-olds? All in due time, young grasshopper, all in due time. <snicker>

Jade and I didn't actually meet until a few years ago. I got bored at work and started surfing the Web for information about a little show I was interested in called The X-Files. That's how we met, see. During our first conversation ever we formed this crazy idea for an XF/Ally McBeal crossover, and we've been forming crazy ideas together ever since.

Well, our interest in XF started to ebb after a while (it was v. tramatic when that began to happen, as it was our #1 show for so long). The show was getting a bit stale, David Duchovny left, and through fanfic, we'd told pretty much all the stories we had to tell (though we don't plan to ever "retire" -- you never know when inspiration might hit again). I wandered around aimlessly and reinvested myself in my (new) job, but Jade was luckier -- she had another show she loved to fall back on: Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

She tried to get me into it, but I resisted for a long, long time, and didn't start watching until last year. (I just couldn't watch anything where the heroine's name was "Buffy." Plus the movie sucked ass.) But the inimitable Jade established herself in that community and shares her wonderful writing talents with them. Her BtVS fan fiction can be found here. Her ship of choice is Buffy/Angel, and she has quite the following over there. If we can duplicate half her success when it comes to Lex/Lana, I'll be thrilled. (The Buffy/Angel ship is one of the few that we differ on, but we've chalked it up to timing. I began watching BtVS when Angel was long gone.)

Jade also got me into Roswell, and there came a point when I was more into that show than she was. In fact, I got into Roswell before I could get into BtVS -- it's really what started me down the long, dark path of teen shows. Anyhow, our interest in Roswell has about evened out now. Neither of us really got into writing fiction for that show, though many (crazy) ideas were tossed around. (Our second differing ship: We were both into Max/Liz until the writers completely fucked it up. Jade responded by losing interest in the show; I kept mine alive for a bit by dabbling in Polarism, i.e., Michael/Liz.)

And finally, we come to Smallville, our new frontier, the whole reason this site exists at all. We're thrilled to have found a new show that inspires us and makes us excited. We love the fresh, nubile cast. We adore Lex; we think he's one of the most compelling, interesting, multifaceted characters ever to grace the pages of a TV script. Michael Rosenbaum portrays him with extraordinary grace and skill, and we have v. high hopes for the show.

Jade loves Lex. (She's Amy from "Shimmer" only slightly less scary.) Jade loves Lex the way I love Spike -- without shame or honor. (I love Lex, too, but I also love Clark nearly as much, whereas the latter does nothing for Jade.) We try to be objective and sometimes we know there just aren't any excuses. But we'll keep trying to find them, and sometimes we cut them more slack than we should. But then you knew that already.

About Sarea:

Ah, Sarea. What can be said of her?

She's a funny bitch, that's for damn sure.

We met a few years ago and spent the entire day blabbing on and on about a fanfic idea that was never written. We bonded over The X-Files and when our interest in that show waned, found the first (of many) tests of our friendship: What do we talk about now that we can't blather on and on about Mulder and Scully? I'm proud to say we weathered that trial, and that Sarea is now (still?) one of my best friends.

Sarea made the point that she can't really talk about me without talking about herself -- and the same is true for me. But I'll try to stop for just a minute and focus on her:

Sarea is delightfully anal, an obsessive planner (and she's good at it!), and an A-list Grammar Nazi. She's 10 times more efficient than I am, yet never makes me feel inferior to her because of it. (Awed, yes; inferior, no.) Sarea is gifted with a self-deprecating wit, a bitchy countenance that hides a squishy center . . . that contains even more bitchiness.

Moreover, Sarea is the heart of this site. I love it and contribute as much as I can, but it was she who made it happen. She's the genius who ferreted out the code and designed most of the graphics and got the ball rolling with the reviews and wrote my bio before I got to hers . . . and she did it in such a short amount of time that we mere mortals tremble in her wake.

At least, I tremble in her wake. *g*

And you would, too, if you knew what was good for you.

Sarea is also an accomplished writer who often leaves her fans in tears or in the midst of a cold shower. Check out her X-Files fanfic here. My personal recommendations are "If He Asked You," and "The Absence of Memory."

Way back when, in days of Yore, Sarea was the best-darned beta reader a girl could ask for. (Her beta was legendary, second only to the RopoBeta, which is almost too holy to be spoken of aloud; a lot like a love that dares not speak its name.) I can't say for sure if she's still a top-notch beta -- it's been so long since I've written anything she could find any interest in -- but I do hope. Hope that old age hasn't diminished her Grammar Nazi-ism.

Mostly, this site really wouldn't exist if it weren't for Sarea, because she was the one who made me watch Smallville in the first place. Yet she exercised extreme willpower; not once did she let her staunch dedication to me remaining unbiased crack. And so I was able to come to my own obvious conclusions: Lex and Lana were made for each other. He wants her. She wants him, too, but she doesn't know it yet. Sarea has, at times, been known to shout "I am *so* Lana Lang!" (just as I am guilty of referring to myself as Jade Luthor) She really likes Clark, but loves Lex. Her split loyalty is understandable, though I share it not at all. Lex is my man and Clark has almost pushed me to the point of being done with him. When canon inevitably takes me places I’m not sure I want to go -- I know which side I'm falling on. Do you, Sarea? Do you?

So far as 'ships go, Sarea is pretty open so far as Smallville is concerned. Just don't mention Clark/Chloe to her. I'm afraid of what might happen. And so should you all be.

Sarea is the person you want with you when you're watching TV. Her reactions are priceless and she feels everything so deeply, you can't help screaming back at the screen with her. Though, her impression of a lemming (a syndrome you X-Files fans are surely familiar with) is second to none, it is merely the tip of the Sarea iceberg.

As she mentioned in my bio (it almost seems wrong to call them that *g*), Sarea loves Spike. She also drools over Christian Bale and if you send us legitimate news of Christian and Kate Winslet appearing in a movie together, Sarea will toss me over for you. Really. I mean it. She's really sort of fickle. But it's part of her charm. You'll learn to love it.

To sum up: Sarea rocks. We love Sarea. Even if she is kind of fickle. Perhaps, my friends, because of it.
